The FDA is warning consumers and healthcare providers that more than 2,000 prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) products are causing dangerously low blood pressure. These products include Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and other such drugs as well as prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
According to the FDA, these prescription drugs increase the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney failure, which can cause heart failure.
The FDA also notes that a study published in theJournal of the American Medical Associationin 2011 found that people who were taking an average of four prescription drugs that contained nitrates for chest pain were three times more likely to be hospitalized for heart disease.
